Alpha & Omega

Scripture Readings:

Revelation 1:8

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelation 21:6

Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life.

Revelation 22:13

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

First And Last

It’s not unusual to have a long “to-do” list that will likely result in items we’ll never get finished with. You had good intentions when you started; yet, life got in the way and you never finished it. You might even have a list specific to the holidays. Face it, there will be things you wish you got done, but won’t be able to. But, that’s ok. It’s nothing that should cause you worry.

We know that Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. In the beginning, we see His power create the entire earth. He has started a great work and He will not disappoint with his promises. He will fulfill his promise and reveal His glory in the end. God is clear that through all, He will remain and His purpose will be accomplished in the end.

It would be inconsistent with the character of God to not finish what He has begun. God created man in the beginning for a relationship with Him. This was interrupted because of sin entering the world. God promises that in the end we will be with Him, but only if we believe the gospel. Being the Alpha and Omega, God is also the author, finisher, and rewarder of faith. It is He that will reward with the water of life. It is He that will reward us with eternal life.

Prayer & Reflection:

God, we rejoice that you are the beginning and the end. We are glad that you started a work in us and that you will finish that work one day. Lord, thank you for the promise of eternal life.
